Psilocybin & Psychedelic Assisted Therapy in Nevada

Welcome. It’s more possible than ever to have a safe, supported psychedelic experience. Cities all over the country have decriminalized plant medicines, and activist and scientists alike are working hard for legalization at the federal level.

Educating yourself is the first, most important step. In this article, we’ll be being going over the legal landscape of psychedelics in Nevada and what your options are for psychedelic healing in the state.

Generally, the possibilities hinge on the word therapy. Therapy implies a mental health professional with a license from their state government to practice healing work. In order to keep their license, therapists must follow the rules of their state government. Psychedelics remain illegal in every state except Oregon, so a therapist would lose their license if they worked with psychedelics.

The kind of psychedelic-assisted therapy that you hear of in the news is currently restricted to clinical studies. While you can apply to be in a study, it will likely be several years before therapists will be able to legally provide this kind of therapy.

However, the word therapeutic simply means “to have a beneficial effect on the body or mind.” A practitioner trained with psychedelics could offer a healing ceremony and call it therapeutic without the same legal repercussions as a therapist.

There are no regulating bodies that determine what qualifies someone to provide a therapeutic psychedelic experience, so what matters more than anything is personal integrity. Aside from a wealth of experience with various psychedelics, our facilitators at Psychedelic Passage prioritize safety above all else, constantly work with mentors, and are honest about their limitations. If they don’t think they’re a good fit for you, they’ll happily suggest you to another facilitator.

We’re glad you’re here. Now let’s get into it.

Benefits of Having a Therapeutic Psychedelic Experience

The benefits of a psychedelic experience are incredible.

In one or two sessions with MDMA, people with treatment-resistant PTSD can find themselves completely healed from the disorder. It’s likely that MDMA will be a legal treatment for PTSD by as early as 2023. Psilocybin, the core compound of “magic” mushrooms, is proving to be a powerful antidepressant, LSD can eliminate anxiety, and ayahuasca is being offered in retreats all over the world for its ability to alleviate a host of different mental disorders.

Psychedelics are also soul medicines. Regardless of your religious belief, psychedelics can revolutionize how you see yourself and your relationship to the world. Instead of feeling like a separate self in a chaotic, senseless world, psychedelics can produce mystical experiences that show you how connected you are to a world that is fundamentally committed to your well-being.

If you want to improve your work performance, you can microdose psychedelics. Through taking small amounts of a substance several times a week, you can enhance creativity, patience, and focus. From Fortune 500 CEOs to mothers, microdosing helps people show up as their best, most effective selves.

The Current Legislation on Psychedelics in Nevada

Decriminalize Nature, an organization that spearheaded the decriminalization of plant medicines in Oregon, California, and Washington, is strong in Nevada. The organization creates community around psychedelics and lobbies the government to pass laws that recognize the healing potential of psychedelics.

In addition, the Hines Group Comprehensive Neuroscience Lab at the University of Nevada is doing steady research into the medical benefits of psychedelics.

While there is no major legal reformation going on currently, that will likely change soon. Many people in the field believe that comprehensive legalization will come by the end of the decade, and the 2030s will the “golden age of psychedelics.”

In Nevada, you have two options for a therapeutic psychedelic experience: ketamine clinics and guided psychedelic journeys.

It’s important to note that if you do decide to pursue a guided psychedelic journey, you are responsible for sourcing your own medicine. If you have questions or concerns about this process, check out our Resources page for more information.

1. Ketamine Clinics

Ketamine is not a conventional psychedelic, but it is legal to use for medicinal purposes, making ketamine clinics the only currently available form of “psychedelic-assisted therapy.”

Ketamine is mostly known for being a rapid antidepressant, but it has also been shown to help heal PTSD and anxiety. Like psychedelics, it allows people to exit their normal sense of self and gain a new perspective on limiting beliefs, negative stories, and trauma.

Most clinics administer ketamine through an IV, but some will offer oral lozenges. You’ll want to make sure you check how much support they offer. The best clinics will provide a therapist or other mental health professional to guide you through the entire process, including time afterwards to integrate.

Check out our guide on finding a ketamine clinic near you. If you can’t find one that fits or that offers sufficient support, seek out a psychedelic integration specialist or a therapist of your own who is knowledgeable of psychedelics.

2. Guided psychedelic journeys with Psychedelic Passage

No matter where you live in the Silver State, if we can physically get to you, we will sit for you.

Our programs are typically five weeks long. We offer two virtual preparation sessions to get you grounded in your intentions, the in-person ceremony, and then two virtual integration sessions to help you weave the lessons of your journey into everyday life. More than anything, we want to build a container where you feel completely safe and supported to explore your consciousness as deeply as you can.

If you’re not ready for a full dose journey, then we can provide microdosing coaching. We’ll guide you through the dosing, intention-setting, and best practices to maximize the healing potential of small doses.

All of our facilitators are experienced with many psychedelics, including DMT, mescaline, MDMA, and LSD. Most of our clients elect to journey with psilocybin mushrooms, since they are the most accessible and the hardest to fake. If you would like to journey with cannabis, we sit for that as well.
