Psilocybin & Psychedelic Assisted Therapy in Rhode Island

You are a magical being. You are gorgeous. You are ineffable. Too much? Perhaps these statements sound like flattery. Maybe a bit “woo woo.” But in a psychedelic experience, each statement becomes a proclamation of truth.

Consciousness ascends to peak clarity, and from this vantage point, life reveals its magic, and it is gorgeous, and despite your best efforts to describe it, the sheer magnitude of the experience is something you can only witness.

And believe it or not, you can safely experience the wonder of psychedelics right here in the Ocean State. As of right now, the kind of psychedelic-assisted therapy reported in the news will not be available for another several years.

Psychedelics remain illegal in every state except Oregon, which means that therapists will lose their licenses if they use psychedelics in their practice. If you are committed to using these medicines in the context of a therapist, you can seek out clinical trial.

However, other options are available. Therapeutic simply means “that which benefits mind or body,” which means a practitioner who is not a therapist can provide a psychedelic experience and call it therapeutic without the same legal repercussions.

At Psychedelic Passage, our facilitators champion a panoply of different healing modalities, and we operate out of the highest integrity. If we are a good fit for you, we will support you in whatever way we can.

In this article, we’ll be going over the legal landscape of psychedelics in Rhode Island and how you can have a safe, supported psychedelic experience in your area. Let’s get into it.

Benefits of Having a Therapeutic Psychedelic Experience

Despite their hype, psychedelics are not panaceas. “Medicine” is a term applied loosely, because at their core, psychedelics are catalysts. They rapidly bring about awareness of what was already there in the first place: a Self that is kind, loving, and completely, utterly whole.

When practitioners talk about an individual’s “inner healing intelligence,” they are referring to this Self. With the aid of MDMA, a person can heal their treatment-resistant PTSD in one or two sessions. Same goes for psilocybin and depression or LSD and anxiety.

However, the substance never does the work. In every case, psychedelics gift individuals with the awareness to see their traumas, limiting beliefs, and negative stories of the past in a new light. That awareness opens the door to one’s inner healing intelligence, where without any sophisticated understanding of psychology, a person understands how to navigate and heal their inner wounds.

It doesn’t always happen immediately, but at some point in the psychedelic journey, you realize that inner healing is actually just the process of getting to know someone. Who? Capital “Y” You: your true Self, your fully realized Self.

Regardless of your religious beliefs, this Self is not only whole and loving, it is connected to every other being in existence. Alignment with this Self evokes a sense of oneness, where you and everything else are just one thing in an infinite amount of different permutations. Psychedelics don’t always challenge a person’s metaphysical understanding of the world, but one thing is for certain: those who have an experience of oneness are more likely to report being happier than those who don’t.

The Current Legislation on Psychedelics in Rhode Island

Although there has not been any psychedelic-specific legislation introduced in Rhode Island, the state has made some major strides in drug policy reform.

On July 7, 2021, Governor Daniel McKee signed a bill that will create safe injection sites all across the state. Also known as harm reduction centers, these sites will allow folks addicted to substances like heroin or methamphetamines to use in a safe, controlled environment. They will also test drugs for chemicals like fentanyl, which has created a surge of opioid-related deaths across the country.

The Rhode Island Department of Health has until March of 2022 to finalize all the details of the program. Once completed, providers will be able to apply to be a part of the revolutionary program, which will last two years. And it is revolutionary: the program is the first of its kind in the country.

Although a bill to decriminalize all controlled substances to a civil violation of $100 per offense died in committee, there is plenty of grassroots movement to change the legality of psychedelics in the Ocean State. Generally, psychedelic reform in the Northeast is gaining momentum: several cities in Massachusetts have decriminalized psychedelics, and Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Maine all have bills in place to study the healing potential of psychedelics.

Your Legal Options for Therapeutic Psychedelic Experiences in Rhode Island

In Rhode Island, you have two options for a therapeutic psychedelic experience: ketamine clinics and guided psychedelic journeys.

It’s important to note that if you do decide to pursue a guided psychedelic journey, you are responsible for sourcing your own medicine. If you have questions or concerns about this process, check out our Resources page for more information.

1. Ketamine Clinics

Ketamine clinics are popping all over the country. Although not a conventional psychedelic, ketamine can aid with similarly rapid healing and a heightened perspective of one’s traumas and negative beliefs. What separates it from substances like psilocybin and MDMA is its legality: it is currently the only psychedelic substance eligible for psychedelic-assisted therapy.

However, the quality of therapy can differ greatly between clinics. When searching for a clinic, make sure to inquire into the style of therapy offered, the amount of support provided, and the clinic’s metaphysical orientation.

That last bit is important because although ketamine doesn’t produce as mystical of experiences as psilocybin or MDMA, altered states of consciousness are best supported by practitioners who have an understanding of reality that complements yours.

Check out our article on ketamine clinics to find the one that best suits your needs. If you’re struggling to find a clinic with comprehensive support, try seeking out a psychedelic integration specialist or a private therapist knowledgeable of psychedelics.

2. Guided Psychedelic Journeys with Psychedelic Passage

No matter where you live in Rhode Island, if we can physically get to you, we will sit for you. Our programs are typically five weeks long, but they can be adjusted based on your needs.

A standard program includes two virtual preparation sessions, the in-person ceremony, and two virtual integration sessions. Our goal is to provide a container that feels nurturing and encouraging so that you feel as comfortable as possible to explore the depths of your consciousness.

If you don’t feel ready to journey with a full dose, we also offer microdosing coaching. Microdosing is the practice of taking small amounts of a psychedelic several times a week. It’s a great way to prepare your system for a higher dose and, most importantly, develop a relationship with the substance.

Most of our clients choose to journey with psilocybin mushrooms, as they are the most accessible psychedelic and the hardest to fake. However, all of our facilitators are experienced in a wide variety of medicines, including mescaline, DMT, and even ketamine. Although not as frequent of a choice, if you would like to journey with cannabis, we can sit for that as well.

Ready to Take the Next Step in Your Healing Journey?

We can tell you from our own experiences with psychedelics and those of our clients that a psychedelic ceremony can be one of the most profound experiences of a person’s life. After a ceremony, the shifts can be so dramatic that it becomes hard to see the world in the same way ever again.

We believe that the transformation of consciousness is a fundamental human right. Everyone should be able to access the joy that comes from knowing their true self, and psychedelics are a consistently reliable and powerful way to do that. It’s our mission to bring the opportunity for safe, supported transformation with psychedelics to as many people as possible.

If you’ve made it this far and you’re thinking of taking the next steps in your healing journey, book a consultation call with us. We’d be honored to hear from you.
