Psychedelic Mushroom Therapy in Englewood, Colorado

Englewood is located immediately south of Denver in the South Platte River Valley. The city is a suburb of Denver that was founded in 1858 when gold was discovered on what came to be called Little Dry Creek– a tributary of South Platte River. Its population has been growing ever since.

The private University of Denver is located here, and is responsible for the city’s funky, college-town character. This bred a culture centered around psychedelics and psychedelia, in a city that boasted large collections of public art and an amphitheater that was loved by its artists.

It’s no wonder why this combination of progressive ideologies and a growing scientific body of evidence have all culminated in the legislative landmark– Proposition 122, which was voted on just last year.

With 54% of Colorado’s population’s support, the proposition was passed, keeping Colorado on the cutting edge of drug policy and fully legalizing psychedelic mushrooms.

Last year, the greater metropolitan area of Denver welcomed 31.7 million visitors. With endless activities to do outdoors and picture-perfect scenery, it’s now become a safe-haven for psychedelic-curious people to explore psychedelic healing, without fear of repercussion.

In this article, we’ll guide you through some key things to consider after deciding to embark on a therapeutic psychedelic journey. We’ll explore benefits and risks, and take a trip in time back to 1971, when Colorado began feeling the trip-killing effects of the War on Drugs.

To close off, we’ll tell you where exactly you can find psychedelic therapy in Englewood, Colorado, right now. Alright, since that’s been settled, let’s begin by analyzing if psychedelics are right for you.

Are Psychedelics Right For You?

Psychedelics have a rich history of healing throughout many cultures worldwide. From the use of peyote by many tribes of indigenous peoples here in the United States, to the jungles of the Amazon where ayahuasca and yopo are essential parts of the culture. All are mainstays and central to their beliefs.

It seems almost inconceivable that our modern way of life has forgotten the power and importance of psychedelics. But things are changing rapidly as we rediscover their therapeutic value and begin the process of rigorous research. More people than ever are pushing for psychedelic reform.

It’s easy to get swept up in all of the news articles touting the benefits of psychedelic therapy– and for a good reason too. They’ve been shown to be effective in treating PTSD, prolonged grief, depression, anxiety– and this is just scratching the surface.

These are the most challenging issues people are facing, and with rising rates of mental health issues, the hope for something better can be intoxicating. First though, there’s something important to consider– psychedelics are not for everyone. To reap all these benefits, there is a significant amount of work that goes into the experience.

To get the most out of your psychedelic journey, it’s best for you to match with a facilitator, to begin creating a plan for proper preparation and integration. Psychedelics are extremely powerful, and like all powerful medications, there needs to be some oversight because psychedelics are not for everyone.

Just like all medications, psychedelics come with potential risks. That’s why it’s crucial to be aware of them and evaluate criteria that may exclude you from psychedelic therapy.

First and foremost, it is best to talk to your healthcare provider in order to ensure your safety. Some medical conditions can come with some significant risks. Here are just a few:

  • Cardiovascular conditions– psychedelics can compound issues like hypertension and tachycardia.
  • A family history of or diagnosis of schizophrenia– psychedelics can strain someone dealing with schizophrenia and possibly precipitate the illness if you have a family history or cause a breakdown.
  • Bipolar disorder– this could trigger a manic episode or cause a worsening of symptoms.
  • Suicidal ideation– the potential for unhealthy and harmful impulsive choices is increased.

Another reason it’s good to work with your healthcare provider and facilitator is that several psychotropic medications can have dangerous effects when combined with psychedelics. Open communication will help you navigate any potential issues.

One type of medication that can cause a dangerous reaction is a class of medicines called  MAOIs. When combined with psychedelics, they can cause an increase in the effects of your chosen psychedelic.

Although this might not seem like a bad thing, they hold the potential to cause a life-threatening interaction known as serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is no joke, and symptoms can be as mild as high blood pressure and a fast heart rate, or as harsh as seizures and death.

Another class of commonly prescribed medications that can cause adverse reactions are tricyclic medications, SSRIs, and SNRIs. Both SSRIs and SNRIs make up the vast majority of antidepressants that are prescribed.

When used in combination with psychedelics, they’re known to potentiate psychedelic hallucinations and can lead to challenging experiences. If you happen to be using these medications, you can talk to your doctor about the possibility of tapering off before using psychedelics.

The Sociocultural Climate of Psychedelics in Englewood

Colorado has been at the forefront of reshaping drug policy. Starting in the 70s, the United States started the War on Drugs. It began in June of 1971, when former U.S. President, Richard Nixon, declared drug abuse to be “public enemy number one”.

Since then, the United States government has continually increased federal funding for drug-control agencies and drug-treatment efforts. But Colorado and the Denver area, including Englewood, have been bucking this trend and setting an example that more cities and states have followed.

In 2012, the state made major strides to dismantle some of the last 60 years of drug policies. The state voted to legalize cannabis, and Denver became one of the first cities in all of America to decriminalize the personal use and possession of psilocybin-containing mushrooms.

Further, in 2020, HB19-1263 went into effect state-wide. The act changes charges for possession of 4 grams or less of a controlled substance, into a minor drug misdemeanor.

Building off this momentum, in December of 2021, Colorado introduced two nearly identical ballot measures which proposed creating psychedelic treatment centers. However, support for both efforts was discontinued and ultimately ended up not passing.

In January 2022, activists filed revised versions of the “Natural Medicine Health Act of 2022,” previously proposed in 2021. It appeared as Proposition 122– the Decriminalization and Regulated Access Program for Certain Psychedelic Plants and Fungi Initiative.

On November 8th of 2022, the voters of Colorado passed Proposition 122, making Colorado the second state in the country to enact a regulated access program for psychedelics. Proposition 122 will also establish the Natural Medicine Advisory Board.

This board was founded to inform the state of Colorado about creating state-sanctioned “healing centers.” The proposition will also allow individuals over 21 years old access to natural medicines at healing centers.

The proposition has initially defined the term “natural medicine” to include only psilocybin and psilocin. However, the bill will be expanded on June 1st, 2026, to also include dimethyltryptamine, ibogaine, and mescaline. So as it appears, the psychedelic revolution is in full swing.

Where To Find Legal Psychedelic Experiences in Englewood 2023

With the passage of Proposition 122, you have more options than ever: Ketamine clinics, guided psychedelic journeys with Psychedelic Passage, or working with one of the therapists in healing centers that are soon to come to your area.

1. Ketamine Clinics

Ketamine clinics specialize in treating PTSD, depression, and chronic pain through the use of the dissociative anesthetic, ketamine. Up until recently, these clinics have been the only legal option for psychedelic therapy.

The main way that ketamine benefits people is by allowing them to detach from their circumstances and take on a more objective view of their life. This often leads to a more empathic and self-loving perspective.

In fact, many of our clients begin their psychedelic journey with ketamine therapy. These clinics act as a comfortable stepping stone for certain people and help bridge the current perceived gap between psychedelics and medicine.

As mentioned earlier, many of our clients start their journey here, but there are some challenges when it comes to ketamine therapy. Many clients report only receiving temporary relief. We’ve seen many cases where treatment failed due to inadequate therapeutic guidance.
