Psilocybin & Psychedelic Assisted Therapy in New Hampshire

In the past two years, a remarkable amount of cities have decriminalized psychedelics. Detroit, Seattle, Santa Cruz, and even our nation’s capital— all across the country, people are creating a safer legal landscape for the exploration of consciousness.

At Psychedelic Passage, we believe the transformation of consciousness is a fundamental human right. Although no psychedelic reform laws have been passed in New Hampshire, in this article, we will go over the exciting movement happening in the state and how you can have a safe, supported psychedelic experience in your area.

Generally, the key lies in the word therapy. All of the studies being conducted on psychedelics are done with licensed therapists. Although psychedelic substances are federally illegal, these professionals can legally provide therapy without losing their licenses because the studies are sanctioned by the government.

However, if your therapist tried providing psychedelic-assisted therapy, without a government sanction, they would risk losing their license to practice.

As it stands, the kind of psychedelic therapy conducted in clinical trials is still a couple years away from being available to the public. Right now, what’s available to people are therapeutic psychedelic experiences.

Therapeutic simply means “to have a beneficial effect on the body or mind.” Someone trained in the conscious use of psychedelics could provide a healing experience and call it therapeutic without the same legal repercussions as a licensed therapist.

What qualifies a person if not a license? We take this question seriously at Psychedelic Passage. All of our facilitators have extensive backgrounds with a variety of medicines and more than anything, we serve with integrity— we work with mentors, we are honest about our limitations, and safety is our highest priority.

The Current Legislation on Psychedelics in New Hampshire

2022 might be the year of reformation for New Hampshire. Earlier this year, two bipartisan decriminalization bills were introduced to the House legislature. The first, called HB 1349, calls for an end to all arrests for the possession of psilocybin mushrooms. Instead, individuals possessing up to 12 grams of mushrooms will be fined $100 for the first two offenses.

The second bill casts a wider net. HB 1392 proposes a $40/gram fine for possession of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, LSD, or phencyclidine (PCP) and a $20/gram fine for all other substances. This bill also seeks to repeal criminal charges for possession of a drug.

In December 2020, the New Hampshire Supreme Court made a ruling that supported a man’s use of psilocybin mushrooms for religious purposes. While it doesn’t change the legal status of psilocybin, the ruling represents continued support for the spiritual use of psychedelics. Taken together, the two bills and the court ruling demonstrate the slow but steady winds of change in New Hampshire.

Your Legal Options for Therapeutic Psychedelic Experiences in New Hampshire

In New Hampshire, you have two options for a therapeutic psychedelic experience: ketamine clinics and guided psychedelic journeys.

It’s important to note that if you do decide to pursue a guided psychedelic journey, you are responsible for sourcing your own medicine. If you have questions or concerns about this process, check out our resources page for more information.

New Hampshire - the view

1. Ketamine Clinics

Ketamine is not considered to be a conventional psychedelic substance, but it does create altered states of consciousness that provide the kind of rapid healing psychedelics are known for.

Most ketamine clinics will provide the medicine through an IV, but some will offer oral lozenges. If you do decide to pursue this form of healing, make sure there is adequate support. Some clinics provide just the medicine with no therapeutic support before and after, and this can be disorienting if a lot comes up during your session.

Check out our article on how to find a ketamine clinic near you. And remember: the key to any psychedelic experience is integration. If the clinic does not provide the resources to help you tie the journey into your everyday life, consider seeing an integration specialist.

2. Guided Psychedelic Journeys with Psychedelic Passage

At Psychedelic Passage, we’re committed to providing you a fully supported psychedelic experience. No matter where you live in New Hampshire, if we can physically get to you, we will sit for you.

It can be easy to mistake the journey to be the day you actually ingest the medicine. But the journey begins the day that you commit to psychedelic healing, and it never truly ends— we are always integrating because we are always growing into the person we truly are.

Our programs account for this process. Typically five weeks long, we make sure to have two preparation sessions before the ceremony and two integration sessions following. We will be with you throughout the entire time. And if you’re not quite ready for a high dose journey, we can provide coaching on how to properly microdose.

All of our facilitators are experienced with a wide variety of psychedelics, from LSD to MDMA, but most of our clients prefer to use psilocybin mushrooms. While less frequent, we also sit for folks who want to intentionally use marijuana as well.

Benefits of Having a Therapeutic Psychedelic Experience

A therapeutic psychedelic experience can be a life-changing event. The powerful antidepressant effects of psilocybin “magic” mushrooms have been well documented to rival most conventional pharmaceutical drugs, and MDMA is projected to be a legal treatment for PTSD by 2023.

But psychedelics are not just medicines for the mind. They provide people the opportunity to completely reorient their sense of self. Our personalities or egos may seem like rigid, unwavering structures of dissatisfaction and negative self beliefs, but psychedelics change that.

When you are gifted with the ability to know yourself as inseparable from the wind or the trees, to see death as an illusion and feel the comfort of your infinity— these are the true benefits of psychedelic medicines. The capacity to re-know yourself as something bigger and more interconnected than the ego is transformational; not just for you, but for all people.

In addition to emotional and spiritual health, psychedelics are also being used to enhance human performance. Whether you’re trying to get more done at work, come up with more creative solutions to business problems, or heighten your focus, microdosing small amounts of a substance several times a week can greatly optimize your ability to do amazing work.

Ready to Take the Next Step in Your Healing Journey?

We live in very exciting times. As a country, we are slowly but surely regaining our right to use sacred medicines for transformation. Psychedelics are one of the most powerful tools we have to create a life we actually enjoy, so if you’ve made it this far, we invite you to book a consultation call with us. From Littleton to Manchester, we’d be honored to sit for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is psychedelic-assisted therapy available in New Hampshire?

Currently, psychedelic-assisted therapy is not available in New Hampshire. While there is promising legislative movement, such as bills to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms, the use of psychedelics in conjunction with a licensed therapist is still restricted. However, therapeutic psychedelic experiences facilitated by trained guides are an option, which can still offer many benefits, including healing and consciousness expansion.

In New Hampshire, the two main legal options for therapeutic psychedelic experiences are:

  1. Ketamine Clinics: Ketamine is legally used for medicinal purposes in New Hampshire, offering a therapeutic experience for conditions like depression and PTSD.
  2. Guided Psychedelic Journeys: Psychedelic Passage offers guided journeys with trained facilitators who can support your healing journey with substances like psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, and more.

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that has been found to have antidepressant and healing effects, particularly for treatment-resistant depression and PTSD. It works by altering consciousness, allowing individuals to gain a new perspective on their life circumstances. Ketamine clinics in New Hampshire offer this treatment, but it’s important to ensure that adequate psychological support is available to guide you before, during, and after the session.
