Current Legal Status of Psychedelic Mushrooms in Grand Junction, Colorado

In the race within the realm of psychedelics, Colorado takes the lead with its recent legislation passed, embracing these mind-expanding substances and their potential benefits, which we’ll go into more detail on later.

Colorado made quite the splash by becoming the first state to legalize recreational cannabis in 2012. This move not only set the stage for greater acceptance of these substances but also triggered a rethinking of penalties associated with them.

Years later, Colorado won first place again when Denver became the first city in America to decriminalize the use of psilocybin mushrooms in 2019, which was a massive milestone in the psychedelic movement.

It’s important to note that decriminalized doesn’t mean legalized. It simply means that Denver law enforcement decided to take a more lenient stance on psilocybin possession and use, allowing them to focus on other crimes in the city.

The journey continued with the passage of Proposition 122, also known as the Natural Medicine Health Act, in November 2022. This act decriminalized a range of natural psychedelics, including psilocybin, psilocin, DMT, ibogaine, and mescaline not derived from peyote.

Under the umbrella of Proposition 122, a program for natural medicine services emerged, allowing for supervised consumption of psilocybin under the guidance of licensed professionals within regulated facilities. However, these centers won’t be available to you until late 2024.

Initially, these healing centers will exclusively focus on psilocybin. This approach allows licensed professionals to gain valuable experience in this field, paving the way for the integration of other natural psychedelics within their healing centers by 2026.

Decriminalization covers the possession, use, cultivation, and sharing of these substances. It’s crucial to note that selling these substances remains illegal. However, gifting them is permitted as long as there’s no exchange involved.

Proposition 122 marked a significant milestone in the world of psychedelics, and the momentum continues with the recent implementation of Senate Bill 23-290 this past July.

SB 23-290 essentially replaces Prop 122, reshaping the regulatory landscape for naturally occurring psychedelics and defining the regulations and rules of licensed psychedelic professionals and their licensed facilities.

Furthermore, SB 23-290 fine-tunes laws surrounding natural psychedelics. For instance, cultivation of these substances must take place within private residences, limited to spaces no larger than 12 by 12 feet, with penalties of up to $1000 for violations.

Addressing the criminal justice reform, Governor Jared Polis announced pardons for individuals with past convictions related to psychedelic drugs, further proving Colorado’s acceptance of these substances.

Despite psychedelics retaining their Schedule I classification under the Controlled Substances Act, which poses research challenges, significant strides have been made in understanding the potential benefits of psychedelic therapy, thanks to evolving legislation over the years.

The Benefits of Psilocybin Therapy

We can thank our ancestors for gifting us with the wisdom of psychedelics, a treasure we cherish to this day. Their legacy has lit up our path, driving us further into the fascinating world of psychedelics and its potential benefits.

The roots of psychedelics date back thousands of years among indigenous cultures. These cultures held psychedelics in high esteem, using them as sacred medicines during their spiritual ceremonies – a tradition that’s still alive and well.

For example, the Native American Church (NAC) incorporates the use of peyote into their religious practices. While peyote and mescaline remain illegal under the Controlled Substances Act, their use and cultivation are legalized for members of the NAC for religious purposes.

At the core of psychedelics is their ability to trigger mystical experiences, forging connections with the universe and the beyond. In this altered state of consciousness, you really see the world from a different angle.

On top of that, psychedelics amp up your connection to the world around you, giving you a newfound appreciation for all its intricate details. You might even notice symbols and imagery that resonate with your spirituality and beliefs.

While psychedelics persisted in sacred contexts, their potential therapeutic applications began to emerge. Although research remains restricted, our understanding is expanding.

Most notably, psychedelics like psilocybin have shown promise in tackling depression by opening up your mind. When your perception changes, you can wrap your head around negative thoughts and feelings and warmly embrace them.

And by opening your mind, you’ll be able to fully explore and accept these thoughts and emotions. Additionally, psilocybin can help you break negative thought patterns, which is a game-changer for those stuck in the negativity loop.

Anxiety can be hard to treat, as it can be hard to discuss your fears with others. Psilocybin can help you open up by inducing feelings of calmness and comfort, meaning you can have a heart-to-heart with your psychedelic guide and work at the root of your anxiety.

For those dealing with PTSD or trauma, psilocybin and other psychedelics offer a lifeline to process trauma from a more understanding perspective. And because of the way psychedelics work in the brain, they can influence memory recall in a less distressing way.

Going along with this, psilocybin can also interrupt thinking patterns and break negative cycles, which is especially useful for those who have OCD. Plus, psilocybin gives you a fresh angle on your fears, letting you see things in a whole new light and easing future worries.

And when it comes to ADHD, psilocybin’s calming effect comes into play through the reduction of brain activity. Psilocybin therapy can be a new way to tackle the cognitive symptoms tied to ADHD through a different path compared to the usual treatments like stimulants.

While there’s plenty more to say about psychedelics and their uses, that’s a bit beyond our scope for today. Before you dive into your own psychedelic journey, it’s crucial to consult with your doctor to make sure it’s safe since these substances might not be right for everyone.

Where to Find Legal Psychedelic Experiences in Grand Junction, 2023

With all the new psychedelic laws recently passed in Colorado, it’s only natural to want to get involved now. While psilocybin therapy centers won’t be available to you until late 2024, this doesn’t mean you can’t begin your healing journey in Grand Junction right now.

Currently, the two main options available to you include ketamine clinics and guided psychedelic journeys with Psychedelic Passage.

1. Ketamine Clinics

If you’ve been dealing with depression or PTSD, you know the struggle of finding a treatment that actually works. Although ketamine isn’t typically a first-line therapy for these conditions, it’s shown real promise in providing relief.

As a dissociative anesthetic, ketamine works like a mental reset button, giving you a fresh, empathetic perspective on things. It’s like finally sorting through your emotions and old traumas that have been collecting dust.

Even better, ketamine is a fast-acting drug, meaning you’ll feel the benefits almost instantaneously. These benefits will continue to last as long as you keep up with your treatment by attending integration sessions with your psychedelic professional.

Now, you might wonder, if ketamine is such a game-changer, why isn’t everyone on board? Unfortunately, approval for ketamine therapy isn’t the easiest, as you have to demonstrate you’ve tried and failed all other treatment options.

If you’re approved for ketamine therapy, you’ll quickly come to find how expensive ketamine sessions are. Prices of these sessions can vary, with some costing up to $1500 for a single session.

If you want to learn more, we invite you to explore our discussion on the benefits and pitfalls of ketamine therapy so you’re well-prepared before finding a ketamine clinic near you.
